누가 우리를 비웃고 모욕할 때 When Someone Mocks and Insults Us

이사야 36:1~38

히스기야 왕 십사년에 앗수르 왕 산헤립이 올라와서 유다의 모든 견고한 성을 쳐서 취하니라

In the fourteenth year of King Hezekiah's reign, Sennacherib king of Assyria attacked all the fortified cities of Judah and captured them.

앗수르 왕이 라기스에서부터 랍사게를 예루살렘으로 보내되 대군을 거느리고 히스기야 왕에게로 가게 하매 그가 윗못 수도 곁 세탁자의 밭 큰 길에 서매

Then the king of Assyria sent his field commander with a large army from Lachish to King Hezekiah at Jerusalem. When the commander stopped at the aqueduct of the Upper Pool, on the road to the Washerman's Field,

힐기야의 아들 왕궁 맡은 자 엘리아김과 서기관 셉나와 아삽의 아들 사관 요아가 그에게 나아가니라

Eliakim son of Hilkiah the palace administrator, Shebna the secretary, and Joah son of Asaph the recorder went out to him.

랍사게가 그들에게 이르되 이제 히스기야에게 말하라 대왕 앗수르 왕이 이같이 말씀하시기를 네가 믿는 바 그 믿는 것이 무엇이냐

The field commander said to them, "Tell Hezekiah, " 'This is what the great king, the king of Assyria, says: On what are you basing this confidence of yours?

내가 말하노니 네가 족히 싸울 계략과 용맹이 있노라 함은 입술에 붙은 말뿐이니라 네가 이제 누구를 믿고 나를 반역하느냐

You say you have strategy and military strength-but you speak only empty words. On whom are you depending, that you rebel against me?

보라 네가 애굽을 믿는도다 그것은 상한 갈대 지팡이와 같은 것이라 사람이 그것을 의지하면 손이 찔리리니 애굽 왕 바로는 그를 믿는 모든 자에게 이와 같으니라

Look now, you are depending on Egypt, that splintered reed of a staff, which pierces a man's hand and wounds him if he leans on it! Such is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all who depend on him.

혹시 네가 내게 이르기를 우리는 우리 하나님 여호와를 신뢰하노라 하리라마는 그는 그의 산당과 제단을 히스기야가 제하여 버리고 유다와 예루살렘에 명령하기를 너희는 이 제단 앞에서만 예배하라 하던 그 신이 아니냐 하셨느니라

And if you say to me, "We are depending on the LORD our God"-isn't he the one whose high places and altars Hezekiah removed, saying to Judah and Jerusalem, "You must worship before this altar"?

그러므로 이제 청하노니 내 주 앗수르 왕과 내기하라 내가 네게 말 이천 필을 주어도 너는 그 탈 자를 능히 내지 못하리라

" 'Come now, make a bargain with my master, the king of Assyria: I will give you two thousand horses-if you can put riders on them!

그런즉 네가 어찌 내 주의 종 가운데 극히 작은 총독 한 사람인들 물리칠 수 있으랴 어찌 애굽을 믿고 병거와 기병을 얻으려 하느냐

How then can you repulse one officer of the least of my master's officials, even though you are depending on Egypt for chariots and horsemen?

내가 이제 올라와서 이 땅을 멸하는 것이 여호와의 뜻이 없음이겠느냐 여호와께서 내게 이르시기를 올라가 그 땅을 쳐서 멸하라 하셨느니라 하니라

Furthermore, have I come to attack and destroy this land without the LORD? The LORD himself told me to march against this country and destroy it.' "

이에 엘리아김과 셉나와 요아가 랍사게에게 이르되 우리가 아람 방언을 아오니 청하건대 그 방언으로 당신의 종들에게 말하고 성 위에 있는 백성이 듣는 데에서 우리에게 유다 방언으로 말하지 마소서 하니

Then Eliakim, Shebna and Joah said to the field commander, "Please speak to your servants in Aramaic, since we understand it. Don't speak to us in Hebrew in the hearing of the people on the wall."

랍사게가 이르되 내 주께서 이 일을 네 주와 네게만 말하라고 나를 보내신 것이냐 너희와 함께 자기의 대변을 먹으며 자기의 소변을 마실 성 위에 앉은 사람들에게도 하라고 보내신 것이 아니냐 하더라

But the commander replied, 'Was it only to your master and you that my master sent me to say these things, and not to the men sitting on the wall-who, like you, will have to eat their own filth and drink their own urine?'

이에 랍사게가 일어서서 유다 방언으로 크게 외쳐 이르되 너희는 대왕 앗수르 왕의 말씀을 들으라

Then the commander stood and called out in Hebrew, 'Hear the words of the great king, the king of Assyria!

왕의 말씀에 너희는 히스기야에게 미혹되지 말라 그가 능히 너희를 건지지 못할 것이니라

This is what the king says: Do not let Hezekiah deceive you. He cannot deliver you!
15
히스기야가 너희에게 여호와를 신뢰하게 하려는 것을 따르지 말라 그가 말하기를 여호와께서 반드시 우리를 건지시리니 이 성이 앗수르 왕의 손에 넘어가지 아니하리라 할지라도

Do not let Hezekiah persuade you to trust in the LORD when he says, 'The LORD will surely deliver us; this city will not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria.'

히스기야의 말을 듣지 말라 앗수르 왕이 또 이같이 말씀하시기를 너희는 내게 항복하고 내게로 나아오라 그리하면 너희가 각각 자기의 포도와 자기의 무화과를 먹을 것이며 각각 자기의 우물 물을 마실 것이요

'Do not listen to Hezekiah. This is what the king of Assyria says: Make peace with me and come out to me. Then every one of you will eat from his own vine and fig tree and drink water from his own cistern,
17
내가 와서 너희를 너희 본토와 같이 곡식과 포도주와 떡과 포도원이 있는 땅에 옮기기까지 하리라

until I come and take you to a land like your own-a land of grain and new wine, a land of bread and vineyards.
18
혹시 히스기야가 너희에게 이르기를 여호와께서 우리를 건지시리라 할지라도 속지 말라 열국의 신들 중에 자기의 땅을 앗수르 왕의 손에서 건진 자가 있느냐

"Do not let Hezekiah mislead you when he says, 'The LORD will deliver us.' Has the god of any nation ever delivered his land from the hand of the king of Assyria?

하맛과 아르밧의 신들이 어디 있느냐 스발와임의 신들이 어디 있느냐 그들이 사마리아를 내 손에서 건졌느냐

Where are the gods of Hamath and Arpad? Where are the gods of Sepharvaim? Have they rescued Samaria from my hand?

이 열방의 신들 중에 어떤 신이 자기의 나라를 내 손에서 건져냈기에 여호와가 능히 예루살렘을 내 손에서 건지겠느냐 하셨느니라 하니라

Who of all the gods of these countries has been able to save his land from me? How then can the LORD deliver Jerusalem from my hand?'

그러나 그들이 잠잠하여 한 말도 대답하지 아니하였으니 이는 왕이 그들에게 명령하여 대답하지 말라 하였음이었더라

But the people remained silent and said nothing in reply, because the king had commanded, 'Do not answer him.'
22
그 때에 힐기야의 아들 왕궁 맡은 자 엘리아김과 서기관 셉나와 아삽의 아들 사관 요아가 자기의 옷을 찢고 히스기야에게 나아가서 랍사게의 말을 그에게 전하니라

Then Eliakim son of Hilkiah the palace administrator, Shebna the secretary, and Joah son of Asaph the recorder went to Hezekiah, with their clothes torn, and told him what the field commander had said.

히스기야 왕이 듣고 자기의 옷을 찢고 굵은 베 옷을 입고 여호와의 전으로 갔고

When King Hezekiah heard this, he tore his clothes and put on sackcloth and went into the temple of the LORD.

왕궁 맡은 자 엘리아김과 서기관 셉나와 제사장 중 어른들도 굵은 베 옷을 입으니라 왕이 그들을 아모스의 아들 선지자 이사야에게로 보내매

He sent Eliakim the palace administrator, Shebna the secretary, and the leading priests, all wearing sackcloth, to the prophet Isaiah son of Amoz.

그들이 이사야에게 이르되 히스기야의 말씀에 오늘은 환난과 책벌과 능욕의 날이라 아이를 낳으려 하나 해산할 힘이 없음 같도다

They told him, 'This is what Hezekiah says: This day is a day of distress and rebuke and disgrace, as when children come to the point of birth and there is no strength to deliver them.

당신의 하나님 여호와께서 랍사게의 말을 들으셨을 것이라 그가 그의 상전 앗수르 왕의 보냄을 받고 살아 계시는 하나님을 훼방하였은즉 당신의 하나님 여호와께서 혹시 그 말로 말미암아 견책하실까 하노라 그런즉 바라건대 당신은 이 남아 있는 자를 위하여 기도하라 하시더이다 하니라

It may be that the LORD your God will hear the words of the field commander, whom his master, the king of Assyria, has sent to ridicule the living God, and that he will rebuke him for the words the LORD your God has heard. Therefore pray for the remnant that still survives.'

그리하여 히스기야 왕의 신하들이 이사야에게 나아가매

When King Hezekiah's officials came to Isaiah,

이사야가 그들에게 이르되 너희는 너희 주에게 이렇게 말하라 여호와께서 이같이 말씀하시되 너희가 들은 바 앗수르 왕의 종들이 나를 능욕한 말로 말미암아 두려워하지 말라

Isaiah said to them, "Tell your master, 'This is what the LORD says: Do not be afraid of what you have heard-those words with which the underlings of the king of Assyria have blasphemed me.

보라 내가 영을 그의 속에 두리니 그가 소문을 듣고 그의 고국으로 돌아갈 것이며 또 내가 그를 그의 고국에서 칼에 죽게 하리라 하셨느니라 하니라

Listen! I am going to put a spirit in him so that when he hears a certain report, he will return to his own country, and there I will have him cut down with the sword.' "

앗수르 왕이 라기스를 떠났다 함을 듣고 랍사게가 돌아가다가 그 왕을 만나니 립나를 치고 있더라

When the field commander heard that the king of Assyria had left Lachish, he withdrew and found the king fighting against Libnah.

그 때에 앗수르 왕이 구스 왕 디르하가의 일에 관하여 들은즉 사람들이 이르기를 그가 나와서 왕과 싸우려 한다 하는지라 이 말을 듣고 사자들을 히스기야에게 보내며 이르되

Now Sennacherib received a report that Tirhakah, the Cushite king of Egypt, was marching out to fight against him. When he heard it, he sent messengers to Hezekiah with this word:

너희는 유다의 히스기야 왕에게 이같이 말하여 이르기를 너는 네가 신뢰하는 하나님이 예루살렘이 앗수르 왕의 손에 넘어가지 아니하리라 하는 말에 속지 말라

"Say to Hezekiah king of Judah: Do not let the god you depend on deceive you when he says, 'Jerusalem will not be handed over to the king of Assyria.'

앗수르 왕들이 모든 나라에 어떤 일을 행하였으며 그것을 어떻게 멸절시켰는지 네가 들었으리니 네가 구원을 받겠느냐

Surely you have heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all the countries, destroying them completely. And will you be delivered?
12
나의 조상들이 멸하신 열방 고산과 하란과 레셉과 및 들라살에 있는 에덴 자손을 그 나라들의 신들이 건졌더냐

Did the gods of the nations that were destroyed by my forefathers deliver them-the gods of Gozan, Haran, Rezeph and the people of Eden who were in Tel Assar?

하맛 왕과 아르밧 왕과 스발와임 성의 왕과 헤나 왕과 이와 왕이 어디 있느냐 하라 하였더라

Where is the king of Hamath, the king of Arpad, the king of the city of Sepharvaim, or of Hena or Ivvah?'

히스기야가 그 사자들의 손에서 글을 받아 보고 여호와의 전에 올라가서 그 글을 여호와 앞에 펴 놓고

Hezekiah received the letter from the messengers and read it. Then he went up to the temple of the LORD and spread it out before the LORD.
15
여호와께 기도하여 이르되

And Hezekiah prayed to the LORD:

그룹 사이에 계신 이스라엘 하나님 만군의 여호와여 주는 천하 만국에 유일하신 하나님이시라 주께서 천지를 만드셨나이다

'O LORD Almighty, God of Israel, enthroned between the cherubim, you alone are God over all the kingdoms of the earth. You have made heaven and earth.
17
여호와여 귀를 기울여 들으시옵소서 여호와여 눈을 뜨고 보시옵소서 산헤립이 사람을 보내어 살아 계시는 하나님을 훼방한 모든 말을 들으시옵소서

Give ear, O LORD, and hear; open your eyes, O LORD, and see; listen to all the words Sennacherib has sent to insult the living God.

여호와여 앗수르 왕들이 과연 열국과 그들의 땅을 황폐하게 하였고

'It is true, O LORD, that the Assyrian kings have laid waste all these peoples and their lands.
19
그들의 신들을 불에 던졌사오나 그들은 신이 아니라 사람의 손으로 만든 것일 뿐이요 나무와 돌이라 그러므로 멸망을 당하였나이다

They have thrown their gods into the fire and destroyed them, for they were not gods but only wood and stone, fashioned by human hands.
20
우리 하나님 여호와여 이제 우리를 그의 손에서 구원하사 천하 만국이 주만이 여호와이신 줄을 알게 하옵소서 하니라

Now, O LORD our God, deliver us from his hand, so that all kingdoms on earth may know that you alone, O LORD, are God.'
21
아모스의 아들 이사야가 사람을 보내어 히스기야에게 이르되 이스라엘의 하나님 여호와께서 말씀하시되 네가 앗수르의 산헤립 왕의 일로 내게 기도하였도다 하시고

Then Isaiah son of Amoz sent a message to Hezekiah: 'This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: Because you have prayed to me concerning Sennacherib king of Assyria,

여호와께서 그에 대하여 이같이 이르시되 처녀 딸 시온이 너를 멸시하며 조소하였고 딸 예루살렘이 너를 향하여 머리를 흔들었느니라

this is the word the LORD has spoken against him: 'The Virgin Daughter of Zion despises and mocks you. The Daughter of Jerusalem tosses her head as you flee.
23
네가 훼방하며 능욕한 것은 누구에게냐 네가 소리를 높이며 눈을 높이 들어 향한 것은 누구에게냐 곧 이스라엘의 거룩하신 이에게니라

Who is it you have insulted and blasphemed? Against whom have you raised your voice and lifted your eyes in pride? Against the Holy One of Israel!

네가 네 종을 통해서 주를 훼방하여 이르기를 내가 나의 허다한 병거를 거느리고 산들의 꼭대기에 올라가며 레바논의 깊은 곳에 이르렀으니 높은 백향목과 아름다운 향나무를 베고 또 그 제일 높은 곳에 들어가 살진 땅의 수풀에 이를 것이며

By your messengers you have heaped insults on the Lord. And you have said, 'With my many chariots I have ascended the heights of the mountains, the utmost heights of Lebanon. I have cut down its tallest cedars, the choicest of its pines. I have reached its remotest heights, the finest of its forests.

내가 우물을 파서 물을 마셨으니 내 발바닥으로 애굽의 모든 하수를 말리리라 하였도다

I have dug wells in foreign lands and drunk the water there. With the soles of my feet I have dried up all the streams of Egypt.'
26
네가 어찌하여 듣지 못하였느냐 이 일들은 내가 태초부터 행한 바요 상고부터 정한 바로서 이제 내가 이루어 네가 견고한 성읍들을 헐어 돌무더기가 되게 하였노라

'Have you not heard? Long ago I ordained it. In days of old I planned it; now I have brought it to pass, that you have turned fortified cities into piles of stone.

그러므로 그 주민들이 힘이 약하여 놀라며 수치를 당하여 들의 풀 같이, 푸른 나물 같이, 지붕의 풀 같이, 자라지 못한 곡초 같이 되었느니라

Their people, drained of power, are dismayed and put to shame. They are like plants in the field, like tender green shoots, like grass sprouting on the roof, scorched before it grows up.
28
네 거처와 네 출입과 네가 나를 거슬러 분노함을 내가 아노라

'But I know where you stay and when you come and go and how you rage against me.
29
네가 나를 거슬러 분노함과 네 오만함이 내 귀에 들렸으므로 내가 갈고리로 네 코를 꿰며 재갈을 네 입에 물려 너를 오던 길로 돌아가게 하리라 하셨나이다

Because you rage against me and because your insolence has reached my ears, I will put my hook in your nose and my bit in your mouth, and I will make you return by the way you came.

왕이여 이것이 왕에게 징조가 되리니 올해는 스스로 난 것을 먹을 것이요 둘째 해에는 또 거기에서 난 것을 먹을 것이요 셋째 해에는 심고 거두며 포도나무를 심고 그 열매를 먹을 것이니이다

'This will be the sign for you, O Hezekiah: 'This year you will eat what grows by itself, and the second year what springs from that. But in the third year sow and reap, plant vineyards and eat their fruit.

유다 족속 중에 피하여 남은 자는 다시 아래로 뿌리를 박고 위로 열매를 맺으리니

Once more a remnant of the house of Judah will take root below and bear fruit above.
32
이는 남은 자가 예루살렘에서 나오며 피하는 자가 시온 산에서 나올 것임이라 만군의 여호와의 열심이 이를 이루시리이다

For out of Jerusalem will come a remnant, and out of Mount Zion a band of survivors. The zeal of the LORD Almighty will accomplish this.
33
그러므로 여호와께서 앗수르 왕에 대하여 이같이 이르시되 그가 이 성에 이르지 못하며 화살 하나도 이리로 쏘지 못하며 방패를 가지고 성에 가까이 오지도 못하며 흉벽을 쌓고 치지도 못할 것이요

'Therefore this is what the LORD says concerning the king of Assyria: 'He will not enter this city or shoot an arrow here. He will not come before it with shield or build a siege ramp against it.
34
그가 오던 길 곧 그 길로 돌아가고 이 성에 이르지 못하리라 나 여호와의 말이니라

By the way that he came he will return; he will not enter this city,' declares the LORD.
35
대저 내가 나를 위하며 내 종 다윗을 위하여 이 성을 보호하며 구원하리라 하셨나이다 하니라

'I will defend this city and save it, for my sake and for the sake of David my servant!'
36
여호와의 사자가 나가서 앗수르 진중에서 십팔만 오천인을 쳤으므로 아침에 일찍이 일어나 본즉 시체뿐이라

Then the angel of the LORD went out and put to death a hundred and eighty-five thousand men in the Assyrian camp. When the people got up the next morning-there were all the dead bodies!
37
이에 앗수르의 산헤립 왕이 떠나 돌아가서 니느웨에 거주하더니

So Sennacherib king of Assyria broke camp and withdrew. He returned to Nineveh and stayed there.
38
자기 신 니스록의 신전에서 경배할 때에 그의 아들 아드람멜렉과 사레셀이 그를 칼로 죽이고 아라랏 땅으로 도망하였으므로 그의 아들 에살핫돈이 이어 왕이 되니라

One day, while he was worshiping in the temple of his god Nisroch, his sons Adrammelech and Sharezer cut him down with the sword, and they escaped to the land of Ararat. And Esarhaddon his son succeeded him as king.
